I'm wondering if anyone could direct me to some easy to understand and simple tutorial on how to cut long hair to shoulder length with a taper. So that it's not an abrupt cut/chop. I know their are many videos out there but I'm looking for something very direct and that an amateur could work with.

Hi Jerome, As you probably guess, a very nice work (specially this kind of haircut) can be done only by professional. What seems very easy is actually a hard task. I know the quarantine makes things difficult and many need a fresh haircut. Despite of my caution, if you are still welling to cut hair with a taper I suggest you to watch Munir on youtube:

Hi Jerome, Sorry for my late answer. You say that you wanted to cut with a taper. I thought it was an easier way for you to cut than a razor or scissors. In the industry no matter what tool you use. A good professional is able to do any type of haircut with any type of tool. Obviously, anyone has got his favorite one. So if you don't want to have an abrupt cut/chop, you must layered a little bit on the end or on the middle length. It all depends of the exact result. Perhaps if you have a picture of the result I could help you more... I will definitely more reactive next time ;-)

I don't have pictures. I'm just looking for tips and some video referrals etc. on layering techniques. It's something I'm interested in and would like to try my hand at it.

He is a reference in the industry.
Good luck to you and feel free to ask me some tips during your hair experience.
So when I'm talking about tapering, is that referred to as layering in the industry/profession?
